Jimmy Stice was raised in real estate development and finance before being educated in marketing. He uses those disciplines and a constant curiosity about the inner workings of systems as he leads the construction of a new town in the jungles of Panama. Kalu Yala now operates a research and development institute led by students, hosts critically acclaimed off-the-grid events, and is about to open its small business incubator. Based on the idea that cities are always iterating to meet the demands of their populations, Kalu Yala's culture, built environment, and even finance, are examples of a living UX that is constantly balancing the efficiency of top-down design and the democratic ideal of bottom-up decision making.
