Alan is a product designer and user experience researcher dedicated to building and growing services that serve the public interest. At Code for America, he serves as the user experience lead of the Health Lab, a product development team currently dedicated to radically improving the experience of applying for and enrolling in CalFresh, California's food stamp program.
Alan has ten years of experience developing software that shapes and delivers public policy. Before joining Code for America's Health Lab, he served as a 2013 Code for America Fellow, designing and developing OpenTrails, a mobile app powered by an open data format he developed in partnership with public land managers, including the National Park Service. Before joining CfA, he was a founding team member of Neighborland, a digital service that enables greater participation in civic decision-making. Alan began his career developing software tools and analytic frameworks supporting the recovery of New Orleans and Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina.
